Welcome to the Menowijzer learning module

My name is Femke van Gennip, general practitioner and practice owner in Doorn. In my practice I have specialized in the guidance of women in menopause. Every day I speak to women with various menopausal complaints, and I see how big the impact of this can be on daily functioning and quality of life.

The menopause is a natural but drastic phase of life. In addition to the well-known physical and mental complaints, this period also offers space for personal growth and reorientation. In my practice I noticed that women often felt heard and understood when their complaints were taken seriously and placed in context. This not only led to more insight, but also to a noticeable improvement in their well-being.

From that experience arose the desire to reach more women. In collaboration with gynaecologist dr. Floor Vernooij (Diakonessenhuis Utrecht) I developed this learning module. The content is based on current medical knowledge and practical experience, with the aim of informing, supporting and activating women.

I hope that this module will help you gain more insight into the menopause and that you will find practical tools to deal with your complaints.

Frequently Asked Questions | Medical

What is the difference between menopause and transition? Menopause is the entire period in which your hormones change. Menopause is the last menstruation, which you can only determine afterwards (after 12 months without menstruation).

What complaints are associated with menopause? Complaints can be physical (such as hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain) or mental (such as mood swings, concentration problems). In the course you will learn to recognize and deal with these.

Is the e-learning the same as a visit to the GP? Is it a replacement for a consultation with the GP? No. This course offers insight and tools, but does not replace medical advice. In case of serious complaints, it is always wise to consult your GP.

Is this course also suitable if I still menstruate regularly? Yes. Especially in the early transition phase (from about 38 years old) complaints can already start, even if your menstruation is still regular.
